Guide to Rub-ons

Navigation: Home < Scrapbooking Ideas < Guide to Rub-ons
What are they?

Rub-ons are come in many shapes, sizes and designs. They are versatile and clean looking, as they are sticky on the back, and are applied with a stylus or icecream stick, not leaving an outside ring, such as stickers do.

How to use rub-ons?
  • Cut out the desired design or letter required, but be sure to keep the clear protective sheet over the unused portion at all times.
  • Place on your page or photo wherever required.
  • Rub firmly with your stylus or icecream stick all over the image/letter.
  • Lift back slowly to be sure that the image has transferred completely.
  • If not, lay it down again and rub over it until image is completely transferred.
How do I use them on my pages?
Rub-ons can be used as a title, journalling or for a quote. You can rub directly onto your photos as key words, to help portray the feelings behind the photos.

They can also be mixed and matched with stickers, chipboard or fabric embellishments to make a unique feature or title.

Rub-ons can be rubbed onto paper, photos, plastic, chipboard, metal, in fact almost any surface. The possibilities are endless.

Things to be aware of

Rub-ons are permanent - once they are down, they are really difficult to remove.

Ideally, you should cut the required rub-on out and then rub it onto the page. If you lay the whole sheet over your page, you can run the risk of accidentally rubbing unwanted words, letters or images onto your page.

Nowadays nearly every scrap designer is creating rub-ons with their ranges, and they are available in a wide range of images, textures and alphabets. For something new, maybe try Heidi Swapp's Fuzzy Rub-ons which have a fantastic furry feel, once applied.

Kiti Q stock a great range of rub-ons, from such brands as KI Memories, C-Thru Ruler Co, Carolee's Creations, Heidi Grace Designs, cherryArte and Heidi Swapp.
